The first way in which I would like to change this game is changing both the bats and the attack power your weapon deal. While playing this game everyone can see how difficult it is to kill anything really. Even those blobs take multiple strikes from any of your weapons to kill it. For this reason, I would like to change the level of damage your weapons deal. Obviously I'm not saying that you should be able to swing your sword once and everything will die. However, while attacking those blobs, you shouldn't have to swing your sword more than 2 times to kill it. The question then becomes what about the other enemies, would 2 swings of the sword kill them too? The answer to this is no. Depending on the enemy, and how far in the game you get, newer and/or different enemies would have different amounts of health. To keep a game interesting, in my opinion, you have to keep adding tougher guys the further into a game you go. So a blob would take 2 hits to kill, while a bat might take three, and one of those stone guardians might take 4 or 5. As one could see though, the difficulty will increase the further you get in the game. The next part I would like to change is the way in which the bats can attack you. After one plays this game, it is clearly unfair to how easily they can kill you. To prevent this from happening, I would make the bat fly in one direction right before it attacks you. Prior to it attacking you though, the bat would still fly in every which direction to still make it challenging but right before it attacks is when it will pick a direction and fly straight at you so you have somewhat of a chance to save yourself.
The second way in which I would change this game would be a lot more drastic. First off, I would change the entire village. This game shows the village as a very calm and friendly place. In regular terms, that's really nice and sweet, however, I don't like it. This is supposed to be more of an action type of game and not a little friendly village. How would I change this? This is simple, first I would increase the size of the village in order to place more soldiers in the village. If there are random creatures around town, there wouldn't be just two soldiers protecting it. The next thing I would add is a little training area where the soldiers would be seen training. Finally, I would still have little houses for the villagers, but I would make the armory/the blacksmith more accessible. This shop is tucked away in the corner of the village and not everyone would be smart enough to look back there. Also, I would probably make more available. While in that "store", very few things are available and it's difficult to arm yourself properly. What would I add? Considering the time this game is based on, I would probably add in some armor that could be purchases and different types of swords, some better than others. The one thing I am debating about adding into this game would be a horse for him to get around faster. At one end, this could be cool, at the other I would already be doing so much that this would be an extra aspect. The next thing I would change about this game is the objectives. The first few "missions" the player would get would be simpler and close to the village. While on these missions though, instead of being swarmed by bats and blobs and stone warriors, the player would only be confronted and attacked by blobs. As they get new missions though and further into the game, then they will have to deal with the tougher enemies. This not only adds a little more of an ease into the game but also a chance for the player to learn how to play and play effectively. These "missions" though would remain the same for the most part and some might come from the soldiers or general where the player might work with the soldiers to defeat monsters who are attacking the village.
These two ideas are very different from each other and both would be very interesting to pull off. Some other things people might ask is would I change the art style? Or what would this be played on? Honestly, I like the art style, it reminds me of Pokemon. This would be a game for either computers or maybe even a gameboy. Please feel free to comment, I would appreciate the feedback.
